Guided Walks around Slapton Ley are the best way for visitors to get an instant feel of the place, whilst also offering the local community a chance to learn a little bit more about the wildlife haven on their doorstep.
Every year a summer program of regular weekly events is held, including twilight walks where groups watch badgers and listen for bats, as well as family orientated mini-beast hunts and gentle walks of the nature trail footpath. Further details of this years walks can be found in our Programme of Walks.
In the autumn and wintertime, a more informal schedule of events is in place, where visitors can enjoy occasional guided walks through the usually sanctioned off Slapton Wood, taking in fungal forays and ambles along the streams that feed into the River Gara.
For those who feel the need to work off the christmas excess, late winter and spring sees further woodland walks taking in the dawn chorus of birdsong and the spectacular carpet of bluebells, alongside coastal walks of the surrounding area led by members of the Field Centre staff.
Spring often sees the foreshore of the Lower Ley alive with youngsters, as the pond dipping season kicks in at Slapton Ley. View our pond dipping page to discover how these events work and which groups are catered for.
